GANGOTRI: An Enchanting Experience

For some a spiritual trip, while for others a dose of adventure, the journey to gangotri is a sublime one.Life in northern most part of Uttarakhand during winters is frozen like ice, every video I took almost felt like live pictures. The journey to gangotri through beautiful mountains and spectacular valleys is one of the most serene and virgin landscape that one can witness, especially during winters.Blue waters of Ganges and snow peaked mountains change the state of the mind just as the state of their existence.
Enchanting experiences that i had while on my journey:

1.Harshil Village

This is a beautiful village surrounded by snow capped mountains, dense deodars and coniferous forests. It is inhabited by ethnic group of the bhotiyas whose language bares a close resemblance to Tibetan. The time spent among these people is indescribable.

2.Suryakund

It is impossible to be in Gangotri and not be moved by this gigantic rock formations made over a thousand of years by white waters of Ganga, making its way through this shimmering granite rushing through insides, cutting them in interesting shapes and finally falling off like a waterfall.

3.Gangotri Temple

Holy abode of goddess by the side of mighty waters of Ganges, snowy mountains, calmness in the aura, what else do you need to attain a peace of mind. This forms a spectacular landscape which one never wants to leave.I had spent an entire day just sitting on a rock placed alongside the river gazing the astounding beauty of Nature.

4. Gaumukh

Gaumukh, snout of Gangotri glacier. It is famous for religious as well as trekking purpose.A famed trek of Uttarakhand region, the trail is dramatic, where civilization is barely possible, impeccable natural scenery and wilderness.

Our Gaumukh-Tapovan trek

The trail to Gaumukh begins from Gangotri.About 9kms ahead is chirbasa, the abode of chir trees. After 6 kms from chirbasa is Bhojwasa, the only night halting place in the way with accomodation. We camped here.Bhojwasa is a scenic spot on the rugged terrains, situated at an altitude of 3775 mts. above sea level. The starry night and calmness of the place leaves you dumbstruck.Next day we headed towards Gaumukh. And that was splendid. From Gaumukh,we headed towards tapovan

5.Tapovan

Undoubtedly, one of the finest high altitude treks in Uttarakhand. The valley of bhagirathi is the best example of nature when she is in a mood to show off.And on a bright, moonlit night at our base camps, the lines and rocks on the river bed glow. You are in love before you know it.During this entire trek one gets a spectacular view of beautiful snowcapped massifs. The spellbound view of Mt shivling,Mt bhagirathi,Mt Sudarshan,Mt. Thalaysagar and some more glorious peaks make one realize how small we are in this world. These glorious and magical mountains engulf you in their mightiness.

6.Nandanvan

A day's hike from tapovan would take one to this uninhabited landmass on earth called nandanvan. The view of Mt. Shivling from Nandanvan is just splendid and so mesmerizing that one can spend hours only admiring its beauty.

7.Nelong Valley

Nelong valley is a part of Gangotri National park which gives one a picturesque view resembling the lahaul spiti valley. This valley is also known as ladakh of Uttarakhand. In this valley one can witness an undependable hand built wooden bridge known as Garstang Galiyon. One needs to obtain permit from sub divisional magistrate to enter Nelong valley.

I am unable to express or describe my this beautiful journey in this short blog post.

For centuries people have undertaken ardous travels into the Himalayas. Some have gone there in search of beauty or truth, while some on a pilgrimage, some with a sense of adventure and others probably simply to have a good time.
Have you travelled to the mighty Himalayas? What was your purpose of visit?
